Wonder Woman #40 concludes the "Wonder War" storyline: a final confrontation between Diana, her daughter Trinity, and the villainous Matriarch and Sovereign on the shores of Themyscira. The issue features Sampere on art and main cover, with variants from David Nakayama, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Jamie Hewlett. It ships December 16.
Why it's ending early
In interviews tied to the announcement, King pointed to his growing slate of outside-comics work — including co-creating and writing on HBO's Lanterns and developing DC Studios' animated Mister Miracle — as the reason the run couldn't stretch to his original 100-issue plan. "I wanted to, when I first started, do 100 issues, so I'm disappointed in myself for not getting that," King told AIPT.
Separately, at least one industry outlet (Cosmic Book News, citing unnamed insiders) has reported that the shortened run wasn't entirely King's call, tying it to broader speculation about creative shakeups across DC Studios' TV slate.
