Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opened Friday June 26 and is in theaters now. If you saw it over the weekend and want to go deeper into the source material — or if you're planning to see it this week — here is everything you need to read. Source: DC Studios / Warner Bros. Pictures official.
The source material
Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2021–22) is the direct source for the film. The 8-issue limited series won the Eisner Award for Best Limited Series in 2022. It is a road-trip through the cosmos — Supergirl accompanying a young girl named Ruthye on a mission of vengeance across alien worlds, pursued by the mercenary Krem of the Yellow Hills. Collected edition in store now. Source: DC Comics official, Eisner Award records 2022.
The Lobo angle
Jason Momoa's Lobo is generating strong secondary market interest in the character's early key appearances. Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 (1983, Roger Slifer / Keith Giffen). The character's first solo series launched in 1990. Both the key issue and the collected Lobo back catalogue are available at Superhero Empire. Source: CovrPrice.com, Key Collector Comics.
What's next for the DCU
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film establishes Kara Zor-El's place in the live-action DCU. Creature Commandos (streaming now) and Superman (July 11) are the other Chapter One entries already confirmed. Source: DC Studios official.
