Star Fox is out today on Nintendo Switch 2. The first major Star Fox game in a decade is available now on the eShop at $49.99 and at retail.
What's in the game
Nintendo's launch-day build includes a full single-player Campaign, a Challenge Mode with time-attack and score-attack variants, and a 4v4 online Battle Mode. The Arwing, Landmaster, and Blue-Marine are all confirmed playable vehicles. The game runs in native 4K when docked on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Why this matters
Star Fox 64 launched in 1997. In the nearly 30 years since, Nintendo has released exactly two original Star Fox games — Star Fox Adventures (2002) and Star Fox Zero (2016) — neither of which captured the reception of the original trilogy. This is the first Switch 2 exclusive title to revive a dormant Nintendo IP in a mainline form. The cultural weight of that is significant for anyone who grew up with the series. The comics connection
Star Fox doesn't have a direct ongoing comics tie-in, but Nintendo franchises and their dedicated collector communities consistently drive interest in any licensed print material. If you're a Star Fox fan and a comics reader, this is a good week — Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opens in theaters tomorrow, Friday June 26, and the Tom King source material is in store now at Superhero Empire.
