Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games is coming in 2026 — and the comics reading list to get ready

Insomniac Games built two of the best superhero games ever made with Marvel's Spider-Man and its sequel. Their next Marvel project is Wolverine, and it's confirmed for release in 2026 on PS5.

Details remain closely held — Insomniac has been careful not to show much — but what's confirmed is a full, standalone, mature-rated Wolverine game set in Insomniac's Marvel universe. The teaser established a dark, grounded tone consistent with Wolverine's best comic book runs.

The comics reading list

If you want to understand who Wolverine is at his best before the game drops, the reading list is rich. Here are the essential works:

  • Wolverine (1982) by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont — the four-issue limited series that defined Wolverine as a solo character. Set in Japan, it established his code of honour, his relationship with Mariko, and the character's philosophical core. This is the foundation.
  • Weapon X by Barry Windsor-Smith — the definitive Wolverine origin story, serialised in Marvel Comics Presents. Brutal, visually extraordinary, and unlike anything else in the Marvel catalogue.
  • Old Man Logan by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven — a post-apocalyptic Wolverine story that served as partial inspiration for the film Logan.
  • Jason Aaron's Wolverine run — Aaron's extended run across multiple titles is the character's most complete modern treatment.
