What the trailer shows
Thor is the trailer's centre — Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder working his way across the Marvel universe, warning heroes about the threat Doom poses to the entire multiverse. The trailer's biggest moment: a masked Doctor Doom confronting Thor and stopping Stormbreaker dead with a single flick of his wrist. The trailer confirms that three distinct Marvel universes are colliding: the main MCU home to the Avengers; the Fantastic Four's parallel reality introduced in Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025); and the X-Men universe — with Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) all reprising their roles from the original 20th Century Fox X-Men films. It is the first time these actors have appeared in the MCU. Source: EntertainmentNow (July 20 2026), ABC News (July 20 2026).
Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers — confirmed in the teaser trailers attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash in late 2025. The full trailer builds on that reveal. Source: Variety (July 20 2026).

The production context
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo — the team behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. Produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Jonathan Schwartz. Avengers: Doomsday was originally scheduled for May 2026 before being moved to December 18 2026. It is the 39th film in the MCU and the third installment of Phase Six. The trailer will be attached to Spider-Man: Brand New Day screenings when that film opens worldwide July 31. Source: Dark Horizons (July 20 2026).
