The source material
The film draws directly from Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow — an 8-issue limited series published by DC Comics in 2021–22. The series is a road-trip story through the cosmos: Supergirl accompanies a young girl named Ruthye on a mission of vengeance across alien worlds, pursued by the mercenary Krem of the Yellow Hills. It is darker, stranger, and more cosmically ambitious than any previous Supergirl story. It won the Eisner Award for Best Limited Series in 2022 and is widely considered one of the strongest DC comics of the decade. Source: DC Comics official, Eisner Award records 2022.
