Star Fox returns on Nintendo Switch 2 — the most anticipated Nintendo exclusive in years releases June 25

Fox McCloud hasn't had a proper game since Star Fox Zero in 2016 — a decade of absence for one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises. That changes on June 25.

Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 is a full reboot of the series — a new rail shooter that brings back the classic barrel-roll gameplay while building a fresh take on the Lylat System. Nintendo confirmed the game in May 2026 and dated it for June 25, making it one of the Switch 2's biggest launch-window exclusives.

Why this is a big deal

Star Fox 64 remains one of the most beloved games in Nintendo's history. The series struggled to find its footing after that — Zero was experimental and divisive, and the franchise went quiet for years. Based on everything shown so far, the new Star Fox is a confident, unapologetic revival of the franchise's core identity.

For collectors

Star Fox has a passionate collector fanbase. Original Star Fox 64 cartridges with original packaging are among the more sought-after N64 items. A strong new release typically re-energizes interest in the vintage catalogue — if you have Star Fox memorabilia or want to talk about the franchise, come see us in store.

At Superhero Empire, we focus on comics and trading cards, but we're always happy to talk games — it's part of the same culture. Visit superheroempire.com for what's in stock.
