Capcom's Onimusha: Way of the Sword — the first new entry in the series in over 20 years — launches this Friday, September 4, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Capcom moved the release up three weeks from its original September 25 date after a playable demo passed a million downloads.
The game
Way of the Sword follows the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi through an Edo-era Kyoto twisted by malevolent "Malice" and overrun by supernatural Genma. Combat centers on deliberate, blade-on-blade swordplay — parries, deflections, and the Oni Gauntlet's ability to absorb souls from defeated enemies — a deliberate departure from the Soulslike genre it's often compared to.
Editions and platforms
Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe editions are available, each with cosmetic and gameplay-affecting pre-order bonuses (a Lion Dog charm and a Sealed Curse sword skin on Standard; White Monkey and White Lion added on the higher tiers). All four platforms launch simultaneously.
