The all-star creative team behind 2025's hit miniseries Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum — and the ongoing horror anthology Ice Cream Man — is back at DC Comics with something new.
Deadman #1 launched Wednesday June 3rd, written by W. Maxwell Prince with art by Martín Morazzo.
The premise
In the millisecond following his murder, the soul of circus aerialist Boston Brand is commandeered by a mysterious supernatural force. That's where this story begins — and from a creative team with Prince and Morazzo's track record with horror, what follows is likely to be genuinely unsettling.
Prince is best known for Ice Cream Man, the critically acclaimed horror anthology that has been running at Image Comics since 2018. His approach to horror is literary and psychological — less about shock, more about dread. Morazzo's art has a clean, precise quality that makes the uncanny feel grounded, which is exactly the right visual register for a ghost story about a man who doesn't know he's dead.
The DC Next Level imprint
Deadman #1 is part of DC's Next Level imprint, which is positioning itself as DC's home for more ambitious, creator-driven projects. It sits alongside titles like the recently launched Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum — same creative team — as a signal of DC's willingness to let talented creators take their characters somewhere genuinely interesting.
