D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event ran August 14–16 in Anaheim, and while it's a Disney Parks-first show, Marvel Studios used Friday night's Disney Entertainment Showcase to drop the comics-adjacent news of the summer: the full cast of its long-awaited X-Men movie.
X-Men reveals its cast
Director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts) took the stage alongside the film's new mutant lineup:
- Sadie Sink as Jean Grey (already introduced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day)
- Kit Connor as Cyclops
- Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier
- Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
- Inde Navarrette as Rogue
- Maya Boyd as Storm
- Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, revealed via a taped message from Pinewood Studios
X-Men is currently set for May 5, 2028. Kevin Feige also teased that Avengers: Doomsday brings together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and original X-Men cast for the first time — which cued a surprise video from Hugh Jackman (with an off-screen Ryan Reynolds) angling to bring Wolverine and Deadpool into the mix, though nothing was confirmed on that front.
Avengers: Doomsday gets a new look
Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell took the stage for a special look at Avengers: Doomsday, alongside a new poster. The footage centered on Doctor Doom (Downey) unraveling timelines, largely echoing what Marvel showed at SDCC last month with added footage. Evans and Atwell return as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. Doomsday remains dated for December 18, 2026.
VisionQuest trailer debuts
Paul Bettany and James Spader joined Feige to debut the first trailer for VisionQuest, the Disney+ series following Vision as he searches for identity while consulting his own embedded programming — including J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., and Spader's Ultron. The series premieres October 14 on Disney+.
On the comics side: Marvel Fanfare
Away from the movie panels, D23's comics-specific programming (Marvel Fanfare) marked Spider-Man's 65th anniversary with editor C.B. Cebulski and Nick Lowe, including an exclusive comic for attendees and a full retrospective panel spanning six decades of the character.
Why this matters for the shop
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day already in theaters and X-Men casting now locked, expect renewed customer interest in X-Men back issues and current Spider-Man tie-in variants. Worth a shelf-talker connecting the new X-Men cast to their classic comic counterparts.
