The animated series effect
DC Studios announced an Absolute Batman adult animated series at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 25, 2026. Scott Snyder serves as executive producer and showrunner. Nick Dragotta joins as producer. The series is described as adult animation faithful to the comic's working-class, gritty tone. The announcement has driven a second wave of collector interest in every issue of the run — particularly issues #1 through #5, and now #22 with its KCC key flag. The run in context
Absolute Batman #1 has printed eleven times. The series has sold over 6 million copies across its run — making it the best-selling comic of 2024 and carrying that momentum through 2026. Issue #22 arrives at the moment of peak cultural awareness for the title: the animated series announcement is fresh, Superman (James Gunn) is at $300M+ domestic at the box office, and the entire DC line is at a high-water mark for collector interest. 86 variants
86 variants is the highest single-issue variant count on the July 8 NCBD list. High variant counts on KCC-flagged issues signal anticipated demand from multiple collecting communities simultaneously. Source: Key Collector Comics.
